Cut Flowers
Some of the favorite flowers the florists use.
Snapdrogons
:
The" Rocket"
variety are
the ones to grow
as they get up to 36 inches tall. They like full
sun to partial shade. The blooming time is from
spring to early
summer. It's best to use
support to make sure the stems stay straight. They are
Perennial but it's best to plant new
ones each season to be sure you'll
have enough of each color. If you can get seedlings
that's the way to go
when your first starting out.Grown from from seed , you can make
plantings every
week or so to have a longer blooming season.
Delphinium :
Another florist
favorite.They like a
moist soil in full sun or partial shade in warmer
climates.Another flower that needs to
have
support, they bloom from spring to early
summer
on 36 - 60 inch stems.I never had any luck starting them from seed and
always
got seedlings.
Shasta Daisy :
They like a well drained soil and full
sun.The blooming time is from summer to fall on
12 - 20 inch
stems. They are perennial , so if you start them from seed you will not
have
blooms till the
second season. It's best to buy them localy and set them in a permanent
bed 12 inches apart. The
plants will need to be divided often or they will get too crowded
and not live long.
Strawflower
:
Well drained soil and full sun. They bloom summer
to fall on 18 - 30 stems.
It's an annual that's a good cut flower
and also a great dried flower because they keep
their color. The seeds need light to
germinate in 5 - 10 days.Plant 12 inches apart.
Statice :
Well
drained soil and full sun.Blooms in summer on 12 - 18 stems.Used in
fresh and
dried arangments. It's another flower that keeps
it's color
well when dried.It's an annual
so you
need to start the seeds 6 - 8 weeks before setting outside. You could
also sow
directly into
the bed's .
