Bulbs

.Here are some of the flowering bulbs that the  florists in my area used.

Callas : The whites were the most popular, being used for weddings and                                             The colored ones were used in floral arangments for all occasions.                           Callas like moist soil and partial shade. Plant 4 inches deep in pots or in the                                   ground. The plants are 24 - 36 inches tall and bloom from late spring to early                                     summer. The calla can only take light frost before it dies,so it's best to plant in                                 pots.Like Daffodils water for 3 weeks after blooming and let foliage die before                                   removing from pot.Store them till next season and repot. If you can leave them in the                         ground,as long as the ground is kept moist it will continue to grow  and spread.

Dutch Iris : The "Blue Saphire" was the florists favorite. .
Iris like well drained soil where they can get full sun.Plant with the point facing up 4"                         deep and 4" apart  and water in well. In warm  climates the foliage forms in autum and                      the flowers bloom in spring. In colder regions the foliage and flowers wait till winters                          over and  bloom in the spring.

Daffodil :  Dutch Master,Mount Hood and Ice Follies .                                                               Daffodils like well drained soil where they can get full sun.Plant bulbs in the fall 8                             inches deep and 4 inches apart.Water in well.Plants are 8 - 20 inches tall and bloom                       early to late spring for 2 - 3 weeks. You may leave them in the ground for 3 - 5 years or                     dig them up at the end of the season.Either way continue to water them for 3 weeks                         after blooming then stop. When foliage begins to yellow dig them up,wash them off                           good and let dry for a week. You can put them in a sack or panty hose and hang them                     in a cool location till next season.

Tulips : The red " Darwin Tulips" sold the best.                                                                       Tulips like well drained soil where they can get full sun. They can also take light                               shade. Plant the bulbs  in the fall 6 - 8 weeks before a hard frost is expected. This is                         usually September and October in the north and October and November in the                                 south.Plant withthe point end up 3 times the height of the bulb and 4 - 6  inches                               apart.Water in well.

Liatris : The tall stems and the lilac color made this a favorite.                                                Liatris like well drained soil and full sun.Plant 5 inches deep and 6 inches apart. The                          plant flowers in summer (July - August) for about 3 - 4 weeks. They are Perennial in                          zones  3 - 4 with mulch and zones 5 - 9 without mulch.

Asiatic Lily : Beautiful blooms and lot's of different colors.                                                       Asiatic lilies like light well drained soil and full sun.Plant 5 inches deep with the roots                       faceing down and water in well. They also do well in pots as long as the pots are large                     enough to keep from tipping over when the plants reach full height. You can save space                     by planting 3 bulbs in a pot of at least 12 inch diameter and a depth of 10 inches if you                     don't have room to plant them in the ground.Use sandy soil in the pots to keep the                           bulbs from rotting.
